Jen Power is a Master of Science candidate from the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and a trainee in the Terry Fox Transdisciplinary Program in Cancer Research. In 2016, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science from McMaster University’s Molecular Biology & Genetics Co-op program. Her research focuses on elucidating the role of extracellular vesicles, nanosized membrane vesicles secreted from cells, in multidrug resistance in ovarian cancer.
After a close friend’s mother passed away from a 7 year battle with breast cancer, Jen gained a strong interest in pursuing cancer research. In 2009, she raised over $2000 to participate in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and more recently, in 2014, donated 17 inches of hair to a program that creates wigs for women with cancer.
Jen not only has a passion for science, but also photography, graphic design, and web design. She hopes to combine those interests and work in the field of scientific communication, creating visually appealing and informative graphics and videos for the general public to better understand and become more interested in science.
