Nicole Morse recently completes her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences, specializing in cancer research, at Queen’s University. She is currently a MSc candidate in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen’s. Nicole’s cancer research begun as an undergraduate student in her fourth-year research project which she is continuing into her Master’s. This research project involves utilizing a mass spectrometry technique to distinguish benign prostate tissue from prostate cancer based on metabolomics profiles. Additionally, this project hopes to identify metabolic pathways that are affected due to the transformation of cells into a cancer state. Through this she has developed a strong passion for cancer research, specifically focusing on improving diagnostic tests for earlier disease detection, as well as appropriately identifying the disease state as to prescribe treatment. Nicole is very excited to have to privilege of being involving with RIOT’s many outreach activities for this upcoming year.
