Samantha Sewlochan is a third-year undergraduate student at Queen’s University studying Biotechnology. Samantha plans to work in a laboratory in fourth year to do her undergraduate research project. She hopes to investigate stem cells and their role in research advances for treating cancers and auto-immune diseases upon graduation of this bachelor’s program. She is active in a variety of cancer research fundraisers such as taking part in multiple Inside Ride events.
Samantha has a personal drive to her focus on cancer research as her mother passed away in 2013 from Acute Myeloid Leukemia as a result of a side effect of prescription drugs that were used to treat an auto-immune issue. Through RIOT, Samantha hopes to spread awareness and understanding of the research developments made at Queen’s University.
